Regeneration

Traditionally, eliminating the gum pockets by trimming away the infected gum tissue and by re-contouring the uneven bone tissue treats gum disease. Although this is still an effective way of treating gum disease, sometimes there are other options.

Regenerative treatment is available to healthy patients who generally look after their mouths well and maintain a good level of oral hygiene. However smoking will jeopardise healing, and ultimately the success of the procedure. If you do smoke, it is important that you refrain from smoking at the time of the treatment, and ideally stop altogether.

Most regenerative techniques utilise either bio-absorbable membranes, bone grafts or tissue stimulating proteins that are inserted into or over the bone defects.
